Help me grow the channel by subscribing and liking and sharing! I am a long-time artist and more recent writer. I've published three books—Secret Voices from the Forest: Thoughts and Dreams of North American Trees, with work begun on the fourth. Not just the physicality of them, but their views on life and their place in the world. Yes, I actually talk to the trees. Not as nutty as you may think, and I say that as a Mid-westerner. Non-confrontational environmentalist. Exploring the world of aging, hopefully gracefully. Came to live near Taos, NM, USA in 1997, where I built an off-grid straw bale house at least partially by myself. Not so great at laying slab or putting on roofs. At the moment, there are 2 cats here with me. I don't let them out, cause they eat everything that won't eat them first, and it's just too brutal. I'm a cusp (Taurus/Gemini) and truly am of two minds about whether we're going to make it much longer as a species. So I try to stay positive about the news, although it's getting more difficult all the time. One bright spot is the messages from the trees, which are unfailingly zen. They are great teachers, and do keep me from going the depression route, cause I don't believe anger/blame/futility from me is going to make the world a better place.

Oh, how I wish I could introduce you to Mother. She’s a tall, proud protector that I’ve bonded with over the past several years. I believe she’s a Maple, possibly a Silver Maple. I need to find that out for sure. She has been an amazing listener & selflessly absorbs what ails you. But, I’d love to know how to not only listen, but really hear her words in return.

  2. Hi truexmotion. Thanks for your comment. You can tell if Mother is a Silver maple by the underside of the leaf, which is a very pale green. (You could also google some pics.) We had a 100-year-old Silver maple in our yard when I was growing up, and I remember lying underneath on summer days. About hearing responses from her: I believe everyone would have their own way of doing it, but personally, at first, when I asked a question, I would see pictures in my head that had significance, and I interpreted them. Over time, it all became so instantaneous that I can now just know the words I get in my head are from whatever tree I’m speaking with, and it just sounds like a regular conversation (as opposed to the head “chatter” one hears all day.) Hope that’s helpful. LJM
